The first release of TT had real vehicles names, but in subsequent versions they were changed to ficticious names. Chris Sawyer explains,
Microprose US were concerned about the possibility of lawsuits. Their legal advisors were concerned that if, for example, a Boeing 747 crashed in the game, Boeing might sue. The original version of Transport Tycoon was only launched by Microprose UK in Europe with the genuine names, and as soon as Microprose US demanded the name changes all further versions worldwide reverted to the made-up names. It's a shame that the real names weren't allowed, which is why Transport Tycoon Deluxe allowed vehicle type renaming, so a knowledgable player could change all the names back to the real ones.
